What is an All-Terrain Pram?

For active parents, it is important that their stroller or pram keeps up with them!

Some strollers, whilst providing a safe and secure environment for your child to snooze, are very poor at dealing with rough terrain. The strollers we are reviewing today are designed to keep your kid comfortable even on the roughest streets or paths.

The advantages of this are obvious. If you are very active, and want to take your little one with you as you go jogging or hiking, it is imperative that your stroller is able to go over bumps with ease. But even for the rest of us, city streets can sometimes throw up unexpected obstacles!

So if you are looking for a stroller that will keep up with you, then these all-terrain prams are for you!

How we review

We review by listening to real parents. Nothing can beat their real-life experience of using these products, and when asked they are more than happy to divulge all the features and failings of their purchases!

For this review, we collected and read hundreds of product reviews, and talked to the parents who had written them. Sometimes, what a company sells as a feature can in reality become a major annoyance, something which new parents have enough of. And they tell us about these annoyances, at length.

And so all the reviews below, though written by us, are based on real experiences.

Our Reviews

Which all-terrain pram you use depends on where you live, and your lifestyle. Some of the prams we are reviewing today are best suited for slow walks over rough ground, and some are designed specifically for jogging.

Some parents, in addition, prefer a stroller that is as lightweight as possible. Choosing this option has some advantages, in that lightweight strollers are generally more easy to maneuver, and less effort to push around.

On the other hand, some all-terrain prams come with loads of extra features, such as pockets for you to store all of your equipment. Adding these extra features can sometimes make a stroller slightly bigger or heavier, but these extra features can be extremely useful when you are out and about.

Which all-terrain pram you use depends on your priorities, but these are our personal favorites:

Jane Trider Extreme All-Terrain Stroller

The parents we spoke to said that this stroller will keep going for years and years, even if you are taking it out hiking every week, and that it can deal with the roughest treatment.

In addition, the stroller offers a load of unique features:

PROS:
  • First and foremost, the stroller feels extremely solid and robust. The importance of this cannot be overstated – not only does having a strong and stable stroller mean that your child will feel safe inside, but it also offers great peace of mind for new parents, who can sometimes be wary of taking their new child out into the world!
  • The materials used in this stroller are state of the art, and this really shows. Everything from the strong metal frame to the rugged fabrics means that this stroller feels and looks great!
  • If you are taking your little one out into the wilderness, it is important they are protected from the sun, and Jane have thought about this. The neoprene sunshade on this stroller is rated to SPF 50+. With this level of protection, you can be sure that even if you go out in the hottest sun, your child will still be comfortable.
  • The suspension used on this stroller is also great. It incorporates not only a coil spring, but also an aluminum piston. This means that the ride for your child is super-smooth, but also that when you are pushing the stroller it will not stop unexpectedly!
  • The folding system used here is one of the best we have seen. The stroller will fold up extremely small, using a patented technology. If you are going out on an expedition, and are carrying a load of extra equipment, this is a great advantage!

CONS:
  • Very few – we can honestly find no fault with this stroller. If you are looking for a stroller that will keep up with your active lifestyle, or merely one that will put up with years of rough treatment, then this is the all-terrain pram for you!

What makes this stroller stand out from the crowd is the padding used. Throughout, the soft fabrics and cushions mean that your little one will stay safe and secure, no matter how tough the terrain is.

The large wheels are also great, and can cope with any terrain. For those parents who like to go camping or hiking, this is especially important. Even for those of us who spend most of our time in the city, having a stroller that can deal with tough terrain is important, because even city streets can throw up unexpected obstacles, holes, and bumps, and there is nothing worse than a stroller which is constantly getting stuck!
