The Top Double Baby Strollers

KOKOPAX TOP PICK

After racking up more than 140 hours of test time, we are happy to announce the Delta Children LX Side as our best double capacity baby stroller.

At 25 pounds it was by far the lightest of our top 4 double baby strollers, but we felt thanks to its superb design, did not sacrifice any sturdiness or durability.

Our parents all confirmed that one of their main priorities with a double stroller was to try to keep the weight down as much as possible, as they said that they already had their hands full taking care of their two babies. So the thought of having to struggle in and out of the car with a heavy buggy was too much to bear.

Our babies loved the comfortable, reclining seats and the padded seatbelts that kept them in place without causing discomfort. Our team of experts meanwhile, found this buggy to be very safe and well made, meaning that it should take quite a lot of punishment before letting you down.

Things To Remember When Shopping For Your Top Double Stroller

If you are already a recent parent and have discovered you have another one on the way, or perhaps have just found out you are about to have twins, then one of the thoughts you will eventually come to after you have dealt with the horror of how you are going to get those two babies out of you is what kind of baby stroller should you buy?

Well, the most obvious solution is that you need to buy a twin or double baby stroller. Some parents who already have a buggy choose to simply buy a second one, though many of the parents we interviewed said that they regret not buying a double stroller, as 2 singles really limited them in what they could do.

When buying a double baby stroller there are a few things you should look out for.

  • Twin strollers feature either a side by side or front and back orientation. Do not buy any other design than these as it will be unstable. On the whole, we found side by side design to be the most stable, though it was more unstable when only one child was inside.
  • Try to make sure that the front wheel system rotates 360 degrees. This will make it far easier to maneuver, which is important given the extra weight. The wheels themselves should also be double tires and the tires should be both wide and be a good soft rubber.
  • Strong handlebars for pushing are essential. If possible, try to make sure they are adjustable as it will really help your back to be pushing them at the correct position for your height.
  • Safety is always an important consideration. Make sure that the frame is sturdy and that it has comfortable, padded seats and a good seatbelt.
  • Seats that recline will make the buggy suitable for newborns. Non reclining seats are not suitable for children under the age of 6 months.
  • Buggy should be easy to fold
  • Keep an eye out for a good storage space. Trying to carry all the things you need for 2 children can be a real nightmare otherwise.

Editor’s Choice: Delta Children LX Side by Side Tandem Umbrella Stroller

Delta Children LX Side by Side Tandem Umbrella StrollerThis great lightweight stroller comes in 4 different colors that you will find hard to choose between. It is the lightest of our double strollers, something which our parents seemed to love and scored as really important to them.

It is nonetheless a very sturdy design and doesn’t feel any different from the heavier designs. The wheels are nice and strong, featuring a 360 degree anti shock design that made both maneuvering and the ride for baby much nicer. So far as safety goes, each seat comes with a 5 point safety harness that we found kept baby comfortable and firmly in place.

The reclining seats made for a very comfortable ride for our babies, while its large canopy worked really well at keeping the rain, wind and sun off our adorable little angels. Our parents loved the hanging storage bags and found this design very easy to fold away and store.

Baby Trend Sit N Stand Double Stroller, Elixer

Baby Trend Sit N Stand Double Stroller, Elixer

This is a front / back baby stroller design that is a little heavier than the Delta Children buggy, and one that definitely feels more bulky.

Its large, well-padded seats offer a 2 position recline that means your children can either sit or lie down. Our kids and our parents loved the seating, as both seats actually offer the chance for the children to safely stand too.

The only drawback to this design is that the rear seat has in impeded view, which was something that caused a few of our kids to get restless and impacted its overall score. Otherwise this design might well have piped the top spot on this list.

We thought this was an incredibly stable and safe design. The seats 5 point seatbelts were supplemented by retractable plastic, cup holder tray bar that stretch out in front of each seat, meaning that if your child were to undo his belt, he or she would still not be able to easily escape.

Baby Trend Expedition Double Jogger StrollerQ

Baby Trend Expedition Double Jogger StrollerQThis is a 3 wheel stroller that is designed to be able to jog with. As a result it features all terrain rubber tires that make for a very comfortable ride indeed. Though the thought of running pushing 2 babies sounds exhausting, we included this design as many of our parents stated that they would like this function in a buggy, as it meant that even if they did not intend to jogging with it, they could go ‘off road’ with their babies without fearing getting stuck.

The design is suitable for newborns up to 50 pounds and thanks to those soft tires and single swivel front wheel it is easily the most maneuverable buggy on this list. Though the 3 wheel design does sacrifice a little in the way of stationary stability, it is still a wonderful all round stroller.

Our Final Thoughts

It is sturdy and is very comfortable for your babies. Most of our parents seemed to agree that this was their all-round favorite, preferring its lighter design to the heavier alternatives.

Most of our parents and babies alike seemed to prefer the side to side design to the front to back one too, something that really gave this design the edge over some of the other strollers.

What are the top double baby strollers?

There are tons of twin baby strollers on the market these days. A quick search on any reputable online vendor like Amazon.com, will revel quite how many there actually are. When you head to the less reputable online stores, you can find 1000’s of different designs, all of which claim to be the ultimate baby buggy for your child.

To stand the biggest chance of separating the pretenders from the real deal, we recommend that you stick to the reputable online stores, as they will only stock the baby strollers that themselves have a good reputation.

Though this doesn’t necessarily remove all the chancers, it does mean that the likelihood of you getting a crappy buggy is much reduced. To narrow down the list even further, we recommend reading a reputable review site such as our own and reading as much customer feedback as possible.

Doing these things will mean the best possible chance of you getting a good quality product that does everything you want it to instead of some piece of junk.

Are double baby strollers safe?

Yes. The main concern of having two babies in one stroller is the extra weight. This extra weight could have any number of possible ramifications for a lesser designed baby buggy.

Firstly, the extra weight places much more stress and strain on the buggy’s frame, something that will cause a bad design to break more easily. Also the extra weight will make the stroller harder to maneuver and push, something that will certainly cause concern to a number of parents.

Another important part of this extra weight for the designers is that they must distribute it evenly to prevent the stroller from easily tipping over and throwing the babies out. The question of weight distribution is more complicated in double strollers, since they must be stable when carrying both 2 babies and sometimes only 1.

The good news is that all reputable baby buggy companies have teams of expert designers working for them to solve these problems. As a result, provided you buy a well-designed baby buggy from one of these reputable companies, it will indeed be very safe indeed.

Are double baby strollers difficult to use?

Well, there is obviously a big difference between a fully loaded single buggy and a fully loaded double one. The weight of a second child really does make a fully loaded double baby stroller harder to use.

The good news is that you need not despair. Modern designers have used a combination of innovative designs and lightweight materials to make the whole experience of pushing around your two little babies much easier for you.

When purchasing any double stroller it is wise to pay particular attention to how it distributes the load, i.e. are the babies positioned side by side or front and back. You should also pay special attention to the effectiveness of the steering system, as well as how sturdy the frame is.
