After watching our babies getting their bottoms wiped a countless number of times, it was Pampers Sensitive Wipes that won our gold prize as the top baby wipe for sensitive skin.

Pampers have made these wipes 20% thicker, which we found not only helped with absorbing more of our babies mess, but also made them more durable and able to clean even rough surfaces such cutting boards.

Quite simply, these baby wipes outclassed the rest of the field in our opinion, making them our top choice baby wipes for children with sensitive skin.

Are baby wipes for sensitive skin really any good?

When you do the math, it is staggering to discover exactly how many times you actually wipe your baby down every year.

Based on an average of 10 diaper changes per day over the first six months, and 5 a day over the following six months, we can say that the average baby gets through 30 baby wipes a day in the first 6 months, and 15 a day during the next six months of its life. This average would mean the number of wipes used in a year, just for changing its diapers, would be a staggering total of 9000 wipes!

When most of us hear that, we immediately think of the sheer cost of that many number of baby wipes, but even more amazing is to think about how much wiping our little babies skin has to put up with over the first year of its life.

Constant wiping, along with other environmental factors can really be a challenge for a babies skin. As a result, many babies develop sensitive skin that manifests itself in the form of frequent rashes and irritable skin.

Though most modern wipes are manufactured to a very high standard of quality, many are not designed for babies with sensitive skin. Some contain a high alcohol content for example, which can irritate your child’s skin because of its higher pH level, while also stripping your child’s skin of vital oils.

Baby wipes for sensitive skin have been designed specifically to be easy on your child’s skin. They contain anti allergens to prevent your baby’s skin from suffering an allergic reaction to them, while they are also sensitive to your skins natural pH level, thereby preventing irritation.

How we review

We are an independent review site that tests all the products we review using our in house, uniquely designed testing system. We do not accept any financial rewards or incentives to provide products with positive or favorable reviews. We believe in being totally honest in order to provide our readers with the most accurate and best advice possible.

To test our products thoroughly, we first select a wide range of different products that we believe are the top of their class. For this article, we reviewed more than 80 different types of wet wipes, some of which were ordinary wipes, while the vast majority that were designed for sensitive skin.

Over the next several months, we then tested these wipes on our test babies, all of whom were selected because of their delicate skin. We would alternate the particular wipes a baby and their parents would use, without letting them know the brand or type.

During this time we would monitor the baby’s skin and get its parent’s feedback regarding the product. Finally, we would take all this feedback and compare it to our expert’s own tests and opinions, to give us as clear as possible picture of the strengths and weaknesses of each product.

Pampers Sensitive Wipes

There is little surprise when you discover that these sensitive wipes for babies are the number one choice for hospitals in the United States. They cost $0.03 a wipe, which is around mid-way through the best baby wipe price spectrum, and for such a great wipe is really excellent value for money.

Our baby’s skin loved these wipes, which are hypoallergenic, perfume free and dermatologically tested. We found their mild formula and super soft material to be great at cleaning our baby’s skin without irritating it much. Many of our babies actually recorded reduced redness and rashes soon after switching to this brand.

The 20% extra material, not only helped absorb even more per wipe, but we found it made these wipes much stronger than other similar ones, making them ideal at wiping down surfaces and other things such as clothing, for example.

The wipes soft grip texture proved to be a real hit for our parents, who said that it made gripping the wipes much easier than with other wipes, meaning that they were able to clean their baby faster and more easily.

Amazon Elements Baby Wipes

Amazon Elements Baby WipesWhen we came across these baby wipes from Amazon, we were to say the least, a little apprehensive. Though part of our job as a review site is to remain as impartial as possible, we do stick to the rule of thumb that it is best to focus on the industry experts, than to go with less established brands.

Our parents seemed to prefer the scented version for its nice smell, and we found no difference between the two in terms of effect on our baby’s skin.

These wipes are very soft, but strong too. Being made of 97.9% purified water, they contain only a few added chemicals, to help care for your child’s skin. They contain no alcohol or phthalates, which irritate and damage skin.

Our Final Thoughts

If you are looking for a great wipe for your baby’s sensitive skin, then any of the baby wipes featured on this list will certainly do the trick. Our parents gave every one of them top marks, while there was very little difference between them in terms of their effectiveness on their baby’s skin.

All of these products were highly successful in reducing the existing rashes and irritation resulting from the baby’s sensitive skin, and though we found some of them slightly better at absorbing than others, on the whole there was very little in it.

If we had to pick an all-out winner however, we would choose Pampers Sensitive Wipes, as they offered the best all round value for money, when we considered price vs. their effectiveness as a wipe.

Our parents loved these wipes, finding them great for their baby’s skin, while also being super absorbent and durable. The only drawback was that they were not 100% natural, which if this is something you are looking for then you should buy WaterWipes Sensitive Baby Wipes.

Why do I need baby wipes for sensitive skin?

From the moment it is born, a baby has to try to deal with a completely new and hostile world. Bacteria in the air and things it touches are constantly trying to invade its little body, while everything from sunlight to pollution are constantly causing damage and irritation to its skin.

Even we parents cause it problems, spreading our bacteria, while constantly causing it irritation by holding it and cleaning it from mess. Before you start thinking that it would be better if we put our babies in a sterilized glass jar, it wouldn’t, as this is all part of a healthy exposure that helps our children get used to the new world that they now find themselves living.

However, that does not mean that this journey is without peril. Many children develop rashes and other signs of irritation as a result of this exposure to new things, but still require regular cleaning. Ordinary baby wipes are not designed with sensitive skin in mind, so if your baby does suffer with sensitive skin, then baby wipes designed for sensitive skin will help keep your baby clean without the irritation.

Do baby wipes for sensitive skin really help with my child’s delicate skin?

Yes, absolutely. Some wipes that have been specifically designed for babies that have sensitive skin and conditions such as eczema. These wipes are made with hypoallergenic formulas, which contain no harmful irritants, such as perfumes that cause irritation to your baby’s skin. They are all dermatologically tested to ensure that they are effective in providing all the necessary cleaning, without causing any irritation to your child’s delicate skin.

How to make baby wipes for sensitive skin?

If your child is suffering with sensitive skin, then we as a rule wouldn’t recommend risking making the situation worse by making your own sensitive skin. Though we are aware that raising a child is a serious drain on your pocket book, trying to save by making your own wipes, particularly when your child is suffering from sensitive skin, is in our view, inadvisable.

However, if you must, then we recommend the following advice, in order to try to help you prevent using ingredients that are damaging or irritating to your child’s skin.

  1. We advise you get a good quality, washable cloth that can be washed in the washing machine. Making sure the cloth is absorbable is important.
  2. Use the following ingredients, which you should mix together in a sterile bowl or pan.
  •    1/2 cup water
  •    1/4 cup aloe vera gel
  •    2 drops lavender oil
  •    2 drops tea tree oil
  • 1 tablespoon of calendula oil
  •    1 teaspoon of white vinegar

This is a gentle anti-bacterial recipe that you can apply to your cloth using a spray. Make sure you apply generously and evenly to your cloth just prior to using it. Apply the oil until the face of the cloth feels oily, as this will help smooth its journey across your child’s skin and reduce irritation.
